Introduction
The Certificate Course in Financial Economics – I is
designed to introduce learners to the fundamental concepts and theories of
finance and their economic foundations. The course provides an overview of
financial markets, investment decisions, risk and uncertainty, asset pricing,
the time value of money, and capital budgeting. It enables students to
understand how financial decisions are made by individuals, firms, and
investors under different market conditions. Emphasis is placed on developing
analytical and practical skills through simple numerical applications, case
studies, and spreadsheet-based exercises. The course serves as a foundation for
further studies in finance, economics, management, banking, and investment
analysis.
CO1: Explain the basic concepts of finance, financial
markets, securities and investment decisions.
CO2: Describe the concepts of risk, uncertainty, utility and
their role in financial decision-making.
CO3: Explain the basic principles of portfolio choice and
asset pricing models.
CO4: Apply the concepts of present value, future value,
annuities and interest rates to simple financial problems.
CO5: Apply basic capital budgeting techniques such as NPV,
IRR and Payback Period to evaluate
investment projects.
