Module -1: Introduction to Tourism & Different types and forms of tourism (15 hours)
Tourism- Meaning and Definition; Significance of Tourism; Definitions and Concepts – Tourism Systems, Visitor, Traveller, and Excursionist–Definition and differentiation. Nature and characteristics of tourism; Components – 5 A’s – Introduction, Attraction, Accessibility, Accommodation, Amenities, Activities.
Types– Inbound and outbound tourism, Inter–regional and Intra–regional tourism, domestic and international tourism; Forms of Tourism– adventure, health, Business, conferences, conventions, incentives, sports, religious, senior Tourism, special interest tourism.
Module 2: Tourist Transportation and study of Tourism Organisations (15 hours)
Air transportation: The airline industry present policies, practices; Functions of Indian carriers; Air Corporation Act, Air charters.
Surface Transport: Rent-a-car Scheme and Coach-Bus Tour, Transport & Insurance documents, All-India Permits.
Rail Transport: General information about Indian Railways, Types of rail tours in India:, Place-on-Wheels and Royal Orient, Deccan Odessy, Toy Trains. Indrail Pass.
Water Transport: Historical past, cruise ships, ferries, hovercrafts, river and canal boats, Fly-cruise.
Origin, location, institutional set up and functions of WTO, IATA, PATA, ASTA, UFTAA, IATO, TAAI and ICAO.
Mode of Evaluation: Test-02 and Assignment-02
At the end of this course, students will be able to
1) Explain fundamental concepts of tourism and their significance in shaping the tourism industry.
2) Classify the different types of tourism and their impact on regional and global trends.
3) Understand the policies, practices and role of transport systems in tourism development.
4) Explore the functions and contributions of key tourism organizations in shaping international tourism policies and standards
