The Shipping and Port Management course offers comprehensive insights into the maritime industry, focusing on the efficient management of shipping operations and port facilities. Students will explore key concepts such as maritime logistics, port infrastructure, shipping regulations, and international trade. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the skills to manage port operations, oversee shipping logistics, and ensure compliance with global maritime standards, preparing them for a successful career in this vital sector of global trade.
1. Understand Shipbuilding and Management: Students will gain a thorough understanding of the shipbuilding industry, including its challenges, the organizational structure of shipping companies, and the roles and functions of ship management companies.
2. Identify Key Roles in Shipping: Learners will be able to identify and describe the roles of various shipping intermediaries such as shipping agents, clearing and forwarding agents, freight forwarders, surveyors, and stevedores.
3. Analyze Shipping Freight Rates: Participants will develop the ability to understand and apply the principles governing shipping freight rates, including the differences between open and closed liner conference systems.
4. Evaluate Port and Inland Container Depot Operations: Students will evaluate the functions and classifications of ports and harbours, understand the significance of inland container depots (ICDs), and assess the benefits and challenges of containerization in the shipping industry.
